Steve Oliver is the co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of musicMagpie. Founded in 2007 (in Steve’s converted Stockport garage), focusing originally on the purchase and re-sale of pre-owned CDs (hence the name) DVDs and Games, musicMagpie has successfully pivoted over time to become the UK’s leading mobile phone recycler with consumer technology now their dominant product category. Although it now sells the majority of its product from its own website, the company is very proudly the biggest seller in the history of both eBay and Amazon globally, having achieved nearly 20m positive feedbacks on eBay UK alone. It also has over 300k Trust Pilot reviews and is rated as ‘excellent’. The business has a simple mission statement and that is to be ‘here to help’ consumers buy, sell and rent media and technology product by making it as fast, easy and trusted as possible to both get cash for their old product and buy or rent refurbished product with confidence. The Group became a publicly limited company with their £208m market cap AIM flotation on the London Stock Exchange in April 2021 but more recently was sold in December 2024 to AO.com. Steve is also Chair of Stockport Economic Alliance and is proud to be Chair of the Trustees of the homelessness charity EGG (Engage, Grow, Go) founded in 2022, which seeks to provide a permanent solution to homelessness by supporting clients into housing and employment.
